G.I.R.L.S. Sports Foundation, Inc. mission is to promote the importance of academic achievement, respect, self confidence, healthy lifestyles, team work, and good sportsmanship through sports participation and mentoring among underserved girls ages 8 -18.
Founded in 2007, the G.I.R.L.S. Sports Foundation, Inc. (GSF) serves underprivileged girls ages 8 to 18 from some of the most poverty stricken communities in the City of Buffalo. The name of the organization itself not only represents the community we serve but also the values we hope to instill in them; Goals, Integrity, Respect, Leadership, Sports (G.I.R.L.S.). Our goal is to create successful and well rounded individuals through a variety of activities ranging from sports clinics and educational workshops to field trips and mentoring sessions.
GSF is not only committed to sports education, but we are committed to giving our girls the appropriate tools to handle problems they face on a day to day basis through our mentoring program. We select monthly topics that focus on our mission as we encourage the girls to speak openly about their experiences. We intend to teach the girls different coping mechanisms while giving a deeper understanding of others and themselves. We pride ourselves in creating strong relationships with not only the young girls but also with their parents and guardians as well. In return, our parents volunteer their time, donate equipment and assist our staff.
We envision the G.I.R.L.S. Sports Foundation, Inc. provides educational and sports programs across college campuses in Buffalo. As we move forward, the G.I.R.L.S. Sports Foundation, Inc. will maintain our desire and efforts to have a strong effect on the lives of every young lady that we come in contact with.
